St. Mark's Catholic School: Peoria, IL

Fall 2014

Twice a week, I went into a fourth grade classroom for a few hours a day and assisted the teacher with grading, teaching group lessons, read-alouds, prep work, bulletin boards, and working one-on-one with an ELL student. This experience was immeasurable and taught me a lot about the day-to-day experience of classroom life.

Head Start Pre-School: Winona, MN

Fall 2015

Once a week, my classmates and I got to work one-on-one with preschool students doing read-alouds and a corresponding craft activity. This was my first opportunity to plan and prep lessons and gave me experiences to practice behavior management.

Fall 2016

Once a week, my group alternated teaching whole-class lessons in a first grade classroom and providing assistance to the students. Together we created six hour-long health and science lessons to teach the students. This taught me a lot about teamwork and was the first time I taught a whole class.

Fall and Spring 2016

Jefferson Elementary STEM School: Winona, MN

Spring 2016

Once a week, I prepared and taught an hour-long math lesson to a small group of fourth grade students covering the topics of multiplication, division, algebra, and fractions. This experience taught about the importance of flexibility and modifications in lesson planning, because often times the students struggled with or breezed through content unexpectedly and I had to change what I planned on the spot.

St. Charles Elementary School: St. Charles, MN

Fall 2017-Spring 2018

I spent three months student teaching in St. Charles, MN, in a third grade classroom to fulfill the student teaching requirement for my elementary education degree. I started off by teaching the students social studies two days a week, and gradually started teaching reading and spelling every day, then taking over the entire afternoons, and finally taking charge of the entire day. I learned a lot here about lesson preparation, instruction, and assessment, behavior management, transitions, differentiation, and collaboration with other staff.

After graduating, I substitute-taught in various settings throughout the elementary school, including as an elementary teacher, ESL teacher, Title I teacher, and library staff.

Winona Middle School: Winona, MN

Bradley University

2014 - 2015

My freshman year I attended Bradley University in Peoria, IL. It was a great school that provided me with many social, academic and volunteer opportunities including work with the Girl Scouts of America, Prevent Child Abuse America, being a part of Kappa Delta Sorority and an internship with a fourth grade teacher at St. Mark's Catholic School. When I officially committed to majoring in Education, I transferred schools to be closer to home and get my Minnesota licensure more efficiently.

At Winona State, I have really enjoyed my education classes and was lucky to have been given several opportunities to work with kids in classrooms and after school programs each semester. I also joined the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and graduated Summa Cum Laude.
